Privacy

Polemia is the data controller for everything below. You can reach us using the box below, or the same one in Settings. Either comes straight to us.

There is no account

You do not give us an email address, a phone number, a password or a real name. On your first visit we create a random ID and store it in a cookie on your device. That ID is what makes your answers and your stickers yours.

What we store

• A random player ID. Not derived from anything about you.
• A nickname and an emoji, chosen by you, or generated. Public.
• Your answers to the daily question and to any games you play, with the date.
• Your stickers and wall, and a running score and streak, which are recorded but no longer shown anywhere.
• Who you follow, and gifts, emotes and notes you send or receive.
• A country code, worked out from your IP address at the moment you vote. The IP itself is not stored.
• A language preference, so questions arrive in the right language.

We do not run advertising, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone for their own purposes.

Why we are allowed to

For the game itself, meaning your answers and stickers, the lawful basis is performance of a contract(Article 6(1)(b)): you asked to play, and this is what playing consists of. For the anonymous, aggregated statistics we publish (“62% of the world said yes”) the basis is legitimate interests(Article 6(1)(f)). The whole point of the game is the crowd’s answer, and no individual is identifiable in it.

What other people can see

Your nickname, emoji, wall and stickers are public. Your individual answer to a day’s question is not shown next to your name; it is counted into the totals. Notes you attach to a gift are visible to the person you sent it to.

Who we use

• DigitalOcean, hosting and database (EU/US).
• Anthropic, writes the questions. No player data is sent; the prompt contains themes and past question text only.

Where data leaves the UK/EEA it is covered by the UK/EU Standard Contractual Clauses under those providers’ terms.

How long we keep it

Your profile stays until you delete it. Answers to past days are kept as part of the public archive but are detached from you when you delete your account; the count stays, the link to you does not. Feed items (gifts, emotes, alerts) are shallow by design and are not archived.

Children

Polemia is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the site, send us a message and we will delete it.

Automated decisions and AI

The daily questions are written by an AI model. No AI makes any decision about you, profiles you, or produces any legal or similarly significant effect, so the EU AI Act’s high-risk rules do not apply. We tell you here that the content is AI-generated, which is the transparency obligation that does apply. Your answers are never used to train anybody’s model.

Cookies

One cookie. It holds the random ID that keeps your profile yours.

Because it is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, it does not require consent under the ePrivacy rules, but you are entitled to know it is there, which is what this section is for. We set no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and there are no third-party cookies on Polemia.

We also use your browser’s local storage to remember that you have seen the welcome card and yesterday’s result. That never leaves your device.

Your data, and your rights

Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, take it elsewhere, restrict how we use it, and object to it. You can also complain to a regulator: in the UK the ICO, in the EU your national authority.

Two of those you can exercise yourself, right here, without asking us and without waiting. For anything else, send us a message from Settings and we will respond within one month.

Polemia is free. There is no subscription.

Behave reasonably

• Do not choose a nickname that is abusive, impersonates somebody, or pretends to be us.
• Do not use notes or answers to harass anybody or to post anything unlawful.
• Do not automate play, script votes, or try to distort the results.

We may remove a nickname, a note or an account that breaks these, and we will tell you why if you ask.

Stickers

Stickers and walls are features of a game. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought or sold, and are not property. We may change, replace or retire them.

What we promise, and what we do not

Polemia is provided as-is. We do not guarantee it will always be available, that the questions will suit you, or that your data will survive a catastrophe, although we take reasonable care. Nothing here excludes liability for death, personal injury or fraud, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Content

Questions are generated by an AI model and reviewed by us. If one is wrong, unfair or upsetting, tell us and we will remove it. Nothing on Polemia is advice of any kind.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim in the country where you live.
